Which milling disc for underfloor heating is the right one?
When choosing a milling disc for installing underfloor heating, there are a number of points to consider:
Which milling disc for underfloor heating should you choose?
1 - The composition of the floor:
Which milling disc for underfloor heating should you choose? The most common floor types in the Netherlands and Belgium are cement screed floors. In other words: sand cement floors. This floor type can be recognized by a slightly porous gray top layer in which no pebbles or stones can be seen. We recommend cutting or drilling a test piece to assess whether or not pebbles or stones can be seen. Then you can better assess which milling disc for underfloor heating is the right choice.
Do you still see pebbles? Then you may be dealing with a concrete floor.
>> For installing underfloor heating with our milling discs (milling blades) in cement screed floors, you can use the MF series , the black diamond floor milling discs .
>> Do you want to mill underfloor heating in a hard floor such as concrete or floor tiles? Then choose the EH series, the red milling discs for installing underfloor heating yourself .
Depending on the thickness of your underfloor heating pipe, you can choose a milled slot of 15 mm wide or 17 mm wide:
- 15 mm disc thickness is intended for 14 mm underfloor heating pipe. The 14x2 mm pipe fits exactly in the milled 15 mm slot.
- 17 mm disc thickness is intended for 16 mm underfloor heating pipe. The 16x2 mm pipe fits exactly in the milled slot of 17 mm.
2 - The milling machine you will use:
The cross-section (diameter) of the milling disc for underfloor heating is available in 120 mm or 130 mm. Your milling machine determines the correct diameter:
Many milling machines are not self-propelled and are manually propelled. These are often machines with a power supply of 220 Volts and are offered as rental machines at various locations, such as Loxam and Boels
>> These machines usually accept a 120 mm diameter underfloor heating milling disc.
Professional underfloor heating milling machines often use self-propelled milling machines with a power supply of 380 volts.
>> A milling disc for underfloor heating with a diameter of 130 mm is suitable for these machines .
There are also numerous milling machines in use (or available) that are not self-propelled but do use a 380 Volt power supply.
>> For these machines you should consult the supplier regarding the use of 120 mm or 130 mm underfloor heating milling discs .
3 - Milling discs for fermacell
This type of milling disc for underfloor heating is only available with a diameter of 120 mm. For the slot width you can choose between 15 mm or 17 mm . As far as we know, fermacell milling discs are not available with rental machines . It is best to order these from us well in advance of the rental period. Milling discs that are left unused after you have installed your underfloor heating in fermacell, can be returned.
>> Milling discs for fermacell panels (or floor panels of the KNAUF brand) are offered by us in the diameter version of 120 mm. These milling blades are suitable for the lighter machines with a mains voltage of 220 and 380 volts.
